In France, we usually have what we called Blini and smoked salmon as a starter at Christmas dinner.
After doing a bit of research and talking to a Russian friend, it appeared that Blini are crepes and what we eat in France are Oladi. Oladi are small thick pancakes.
I could not find them in Sydney easily so I decided to make my own.
- 250 mL of milk
- 1/2 tbsp baking powder
- 200g of flour
- 1 egg
- 2 tbsp of oil
- pinch of salt
Mix the flour, baking powder and milk in a big bowl.
Then add the egg and oil. You mixture should now be moist and thick.
In a pan, heat up some oil and with a spoon drop the dough. It naturally should be small pancake creating.
For starter, we add crème fraiche and smoked salmon and drizzle with lemon.
